GOLDEN RECORD
My name is Gina Hughes, I’m an aspiring British artist and educator, who likes to work in a variety of mediums and explore multiple themes. Within my own work my main aim is to create a deeper meaning and encourage the viewer to reflect on issues and concepts that influence me, for example the beauty of nature and the nature of humans, concepts that have definitely become more significant to me during the lockdowns. This is something I feel I have developed through the Golden Record, especially within the medium of text which introduced me to artists such as Robert Montgomery, whose purpose of artwork and poetic voice is very influential to me and the artwork I produce. I enjoy experimenting and working with different mediums, with the Golden Record allowing me to explore this further as I’ve become introduced and interested in Video, Photography and Text art, all of which I am keen to work with in the future.
IMAGES: JOURNEY
For the Images aspect of the project, I focused on the theme of 'Journey'. I was interested in showing the physical nature of journeys, as well as creating a personal and emotional link. I was inspired by artists such as Klaus Rinke (who created a collage of images on top of each other that depict the physical aspects of journey) and Mark Powell (who uses a map as the canvas of his pieces to create a narrative of the subject, intertwining the physical and emotional aspects of 'Journey'). Both these artists inspired me within my own photography, as I created a series of images that reflected my theme. I focused on the use of leading lines within my collages, as well as editing the outcomes in order to see the effect this had on the mood of the pieces. Inspired by Mark Powell, I also included maps and a clear subject within some of my photography, showing a more personal side to the physical connotations of journey.

MOVING IMAGE: HABITAT + SENSES
For my 'moving image' I focused on the theme of 'Habitat' and 'Senses'. I gained inspiration from video artists Thomas Wesley, whose work focuses on depicting landscapes and nature, as well as Sam-Taylor Wood, whose use of time lapse initially sparked an idea of the sky over time, influencing the video outcome I produced. I was also influenced by my own text work relating to the beauty of sunsets (see below).

TEXT: SENSES
For my text work I focused on the theme of 'Senses', with my main artist inspiration being Robert Montgomery, with his strong poetic voice and use of public display both heavily influencing me in my own work. Experimenting with 'Found Poetry', 'Calligrams', 'Ekphrasis', and creating my own poetry, relating to the beauty of sunsets, led me to create my final piece, an A2 poster with my own text, as well as editing this into one of Robert Montgomery's pictures to show my overall aim of displaying it to the public.

PROCESS + PRESENTATION
OVERVIEW
The main aim of my work was to create a meaning, as well as showing aspects of humanity to those who may view it. I attempted to depict and focus on the nature of humans, and the world that we live in, in order to give an insight on our 21st century way of living, and allow viewers to reflect on this. After creating my own version of, and working in areas influenced by the Golden Record, I've become interested in different mediums, creating a passion for Video, Text and Photography work. In the future I would be interested in creating a piece that combined these mediums, for example incorporating text, and the concepts of billboards with my 'images' aspect is something I hope to work on in the future.
