Eliza Whiffin

“El arte es libertad ser capaz de doblar las cosas que la mayoría de la gente ve como una linea reacta”.

Hola! I am Eliza Whiffin, born 2004 in the United Kingdom, I am an artist who works in a variety of media, mainly portraits. My work is quite realistic. Given the challenge (as I have been given in this project), I love to incorporate a large array of art movements and styles to my own work and (trust me) it’s definitely not perfect and mistakes are made during the making process of my work but I carry on through these learning opportunities, which help me build my work to where I want them to be. My artwork can isolate the movement of humans and/or objects. By doing so, new structures are created which reveal an inseparable relationship between time and change. Through this I seek to achieve clarity of content and a meaningful approach towards conceptual and minimal art.

Now, for this project, I have incorporated the skills I have acquired in other fields, to create an unusual moving image piece and a gratitude-filled text piece to contribute to “Our Golden Lockdown”.

Espero que lo disfrutes mi obra!

MOVING IMAGE WORK

A still image from my minute-long moving image piece “La Transformación de la Manzana”

This is my moving image work. It shows the journey of a small piece of apple being destroyed over time. I put the apple inside a cup and began to shake it between each shot of the apple and continued this process until only the skin remained. I was inspired by Sam Taylor Wood’s “Still Life” and Cristobal Leon’s “Lucia” work, using the idea of decaying fruit and incorporating Spanish text (another lesson I take, a language I am currently learning)

TEXT WORK

The inside of my concertina booklet; it contains four poems translated into Spanish.

The poems in the inside of the concertina booklet.

The text piece is a form of showing my feelings towards the people in my life who I appreciate and love (friends and family); most of these feelings are difficult to express in words. I wanted to create a piece doing just that, like the artists I was inspired by, Fiona Banner and Robert Montgomery. The poems I used are the best way to describe my deepest feelings. I translated these poems into Spanish and put two of the four in the shape of symbols that are important to me; an angel decoration given to me by my grandmother and a heart with interlocking hands.

Gracias for viewing my work, I hope you enjoyed!
